What to expect?
On 05/02/2023, USDOT published a Final Rule in the Federal Register amending its drug & alcohol testing regulations to add oral fluid as an authorized testing method for the presence of prohibited drugs. WFQA’s Dr. Donna Smith hosted a webinar where she reviewed the following:
– The highlights of the Final Rule
– The oral drug test process
– How will DOT Employers use Oral Fluid Drug Testing?
– Overview of Oral Fluid Specimen Collections
– What about Laboratory Processes?
– Changes to the MRO Process
– Changes to the SAP/RTD Process
– Checklist for Employers
– What’s Next?
Note: Employers cannot begin oral fluid testing until the Department of Health and Human Services has certified at least two laboratories for oral fluid testing; currently, there are no laboratories that have been certified to perform oral fluid testing. So, although the Final Rule makes the necessary regulatory revisions to allow for oral fluid testing, such tests are not yet authorized.
